Rock Bottom Porta Potty Race!
Story behind a new tradition:
Back in the summer of 2006 the three of us (Janice, Luke
& Jake) along with our friends J.J. and Brad loaded up and went to Wild Eye
Chuck wagon races and ranch rodeo. It was by far the hottest July
ever. To add to the crew was another friend of ours ,Ed Richardson,
from Fairland, Ok who met us there. We parked our trailers, unloaded our
horses along with our generator and a couple good old turbo fans (which were
later our saving grace). You see, we knew it was going to be hot, cause
J.J.'s air conditioner quit on the way up there, it was scalding hot at 7:00
A.M. Anyway, the ranch rodeo started around 9 or 10 and then took a break
during the chuck wagon races. It was during the break that the idea for
the "shit house" races came about. We were all sitting by the
truck, one fan on us, one on the horses, drinking one of many cold beverages when
we witnessed someone rope a portable toilet and move it closer to their
camp. Upon seeing this, our dear friend Ed began master minding a new
tradition. The details have somewhat changed from the original, however
the principal idea is the same. There is a horse, a rope, a rider, a
portable toilet and there is someone in the portable toilet. You
can pretty much guess the rest. We would like to dedicate the
"shit house" races to Mr. Ed Richardson.
What would make a person do something like this?? Money that's what. There were 6 teams in the 1st annual toilet race, all competing for a $200 cash prize. Jessica Martin was the lucky (?) winner, and she earned every bit of it too! Riding in a fast moving potty proved to be a challenge. Only those who witnessed this event can appreciate it. This event is exclusive to Rock Bottom. After all once you hit Rock Bottom there is no telling what one might do for a little cash!
